You do not see photos at first. You see what someone is into, roughly how far away they are, and a few lines in their own words. If you both say yes, you start talking.

Why it works
Other apps show you a photo before anything else. So you judge people in half a second, on the one thing that has the least to do with whether you would enjoy their company.
Then you match, chat for three weeks, and never meet. Nothing is pushing the conversation anywhere. And someone who could have been a great friend gets swiped away because of one bad photo.
Kindred turns that around. You match on the things you both like doing. Photos come later, once you have actually talked. And the app keeps asking the question that matters: when are you two going to meet?
A photo does not tell you whether you would enjoy a Saturday with someone. What they like doing tells you a lot.

Making friends as a couple is hard, and almost nothing is built for it. Kindred matches the two of you with other couples for dinners, hikes and games nights. Friends only, and we enforce that.

The same idea, for dating. You find out if you actually get on before you find out what anyone looks like.

No ads, so the app has to be paid for somehow. It is about the price of a coffee once a year, and the free tier is a real app, not a locked door.

Some things are never for sale, at any price: seeing a photo or a name before day 3, anyone's exact location, and how somebody rated a meetup with you. Those are the app, not an upsell.
Safety
Being honest about this matters more than sounding reassuring.
Meeting people from the internet has real risks, and no app can remove them. Meet somewhere public the first few times. Tell a friend where you are going. Sort out your own way home. Never send anyone money, whatever reason they give. If something feels wrong, leave.
Privacy
This is not a slogan. It is built that way, and it would take real work to undo.
There are no adverts in Kindred. No tracking, no analytics, no third-party code of any kind. We do not sell your data, share it, or study it. You are not followed around other apps and websites.
This website does not track you either. No cookies. No analytics. Even the fonts are the ones already on your device.
Questions
Because a photo shown first drowns out everything else. Hiding it for three days does not make looks stop mattering. It just stops them being the only thing you get to judge.
Nothing bad happens. The app nudges you to make a plan, and it is honest when a chat is going nowhere, so you do not spend another two weeks on it.
Both people sign up separately, each with their own email and date of birth. Then one shows a code in the app and the other scans it, in person. Until that is done, nobody sees your couple profile.
No, and it is written into the rules. Couple accounts are for making friends with other couples. Pushing for anything else is a specific reason to report someone.
Messages are saved on the server so your chat is still there when you close the app. That means whoever runs the server could technically open the database, as with any app of this kind. Nobody reads them, studies them, or gives them to anyone. They are not end-to-end encrypted, and we would rather say that plainly.
Downloading it is free, and the free tier is a real app: you can match, talk, unlock photos on day 3, and meet up, with 10 waves a day. Kindred is $0.99 a month and gives you 25 waves a day. Kindred+ is $2.99 a month and adds the extras. Everyone on the launch list gets Kindred free for good.
No. You can use Kindred without ever paying, and nothing about your matches or your photos is held back if you do not. The paid tiers buy you more chances, not better treatment.
Yes. Kindred's first month is free. You are told before it ends, and if you do nothing you drop back to the free tier rather than being charged.
60 waves a day instead of 10, undoing a pass you regret, a weekly second look at everyone you passed, three extra days on a match that went quiet, and searching any distance and any age range instead of 50 km and a 20-year span.
No, and you never will be able to. The day 3 reveal is the product. Nobody can buy their way past it, buy your exact location, or buy the private rating somebody gave a meetup with them. Those are not upsells we have not built yet; they are things we will not sell.
Through your Apple or Google account, the same as any other subscription, and it takes about three taps. We cannot cancel it for you and we cannot stop you cancelling. You keep what you paid for until the end of the period you already paid.
Nothing is deleted. Your matches, chats and photos stay exactly where they are. You go back to the free tier, so your daily waves drop and your search range narrows. Nobody is locked out of a conversation they were already having.
Anyone who signs up before launch, and anyone they invite from inside the app, gets Kindred free for good and Kindred+ free for three months. After that Kindred+ stays at $0.99 a month for them instead of $2.99. It does not expire and it is tied to your email address.
Because those are the two options. An app with no adverts and no subscription is an app being paid for some other way, usually with your data. A dollar a month keeps it running and keeps the privacy policy honest.
